This learning log should deal with the following issues:
Talk, please, in the first paragraph about what you knew of Christopher Columbus before this class. Then talk about how you encounter him in your course book The Heritage of World Civilizations and in Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States as well as in the short documentary "Christopher Columbus: what Really happened" in [url removed, login to view]
The second paragraph should address what is meant by the voyages of explorations in the 15th and 16th centuries and talk about the impact of these voyages on the Native Americans (You can, for instance, think of the reports of Bartolome de las Casas quoted in Zinn or Hernan Cortes's wars on the Aztecs).
The last paragraph should address what came to be known as the columbian exchange. Please, summarize again the main ideas of the short documentary narrated by Nicole Haworth and comment on her concluding remark that connects destruction with progress.
