You may even find that in relating the theory to your observations, or in reading more widely on a topic, you actually discover that the theory has ‘got it wrong’ in some way. Write about this
Structure (MUST FOLLOW!)
Introduction (2 marks)
1 Explains your involvement in the group and what the essay is about ;
2 Development of a central argument - are your experiences supported in the literature
3 Outline of what will be presented in the essay
states your involvement, what the essay is about. You also need to discuss what theories or concepts you are going to use and whether your experiences were supported in the literature (argument). Give an outline of what will be presented in the essay
Part 1 (16 marks)
1 Describes and analyses the group processes when preparing the presentation
2 Links reflections about what happened in the preparation meetings to research literature on communication/ conflict / group work / or other selected topics
reflect on and evaluate the group process in developing the presentation. You might like to talk about positive and negative experiences in your group, comment on your thoughts and feelings in relation to these experiences, and discuss how you would do things better next time. As a rough guideline, each paragraph should contain an 'I' statement (a reflection). Again, reflections should be linked to the literature.
Part 2 (16 marks)
1 Describes and analyses your role in the group leading up to presentation
2 Links reflections to the research literature on interpersonal and group communication
need to describe your contribution to the overall group and aspects of personality and interactions that were important in driving these behaviours. Remember you are reflecting on your own contribution and how this emerged in communication between you and the group as a whole as well individually with other group members. It is important that you link each reflection to the self-awareness tests and to theory.
Part 3 (4 marks)
1 Reflection on your overall contribution to group processes
2 Suggest how you could have improved the group processes using research literature (self development plan)
reflection on your overall contribution to the group process. It also contains a self development plan that suggests how your contribution to the group process could be improved in the future.
