Graphics
We require images in BMP (Windows bitmap) and ICO (Windows icon) formats. There are six graphic files that we need, in two groups.
Group 1: Wizard graphics
This group contains just one image.
• Wizard sidebar bitmap: The bitmap should have the following parameters:
o File name: [url removed, login to view]
o File format: Windows BMP.
o Width: 120 pixels
o Height: 220 pixels
o Colors: preferably 256
Group 2: Application graphics
This group contains five images. All these images should be in ICO (Windows icon) format. The icon (ICO) file may store multiple images at different pixel sizes. Windows selects the most appropriate size depending on the context (purpose) in which the image is shown. If Windows does not find an image of the desired size it re-sizes the image it can find to obtain the best fit. This transformation not always yields the best result, particularly that the color depth may be reduced as well. The standard icon size is 32 x 32 pixels. However, window title bars and task bar tray show 16 x 16 icons. For some of these images both sizes may be used (e.g., the main application icon). The remaining images show only in the 16 x 16 version.
• The main application icon. This image shows up in all dialogs presented by the product user interface, including the installation wizard (e.g., see the title bar in the above dialog screenshot). It also shows up in the system tray area on the task bar (usually lower right corner of your screen). This image should have the following parameters:
o File name: [url removed, login to view]
o File format: Windows ICO.
o Primary image:
© Width: 32 pixels
© Height: 32 pixels
© Colors: 16 or 256
o Secondary image:
© Width: 16 pixels
© Height: 16 pixels
© Colors: 16 or 256
Both the primary and secondary image should look about the same to avoid confusing users.
Both the primary and secondary images must be within one file [url removed, login to view]
• The disabled software icon. This image shows up in the system tray area on the task bar and indicates to the user that the software is in the “disabled” state. This image should have the following parameters:
o File name: [url removed, login to view]
o File format: Windows ICO.
o File format: Windows ICO.
o Primary image:
© Width: 32 pixels
© Height: 32 pixels
© Colors: 16 or 256
o Secondary image:
© Width: 16 pixels
© Height: 16 pixels
© Colors: 16 or 256
Both the primary and secondary image should look about the same to avoid confusing users.
Both the primary and secondary images must be within one file [url removed, login to view]
• Three (3) blinking icons. These three icons are used to simulate an animated image that indicates that the software is bringing data from the Internet. This image temporarily replaces the main application image in the system tray area on the task bar. These images should have the following parameters:
o File name: [url removed, login to view], [url removed, login to view], and [url removed, login to view]
o File format: Windows ICO.
o Width: 16 pixels
o Height: 16 pixels
o Colors: 16 or 256
The ICO file may also contain the 32 x 32 image but the 16 x 16 image is actually shown.
