Hi, A doll that looks lifelike but is safe for a one-year-old to chew on is a tricky balance and that's what makes it a fun one. Toddler faces read as "real" through soft cheeks, a roundish forehead and wide-set eyes, so I'd keep the proportions gentle and let the face carry the realism instead of fine detail that chips or traps grime. Sketches come first: body shape, poseability and a handful of expressions (sleepy, giggly, curious) so you can pick the personality of the line before anything gets modelled. Then I build the model in CAD with injection moulding in mind: even wall thickness, proper draft, and parting lines along natural seams like the sides of the head and under the arms so they never cut across the face. Edges are rounded, there are no small detachable parts, eyes are moulded or painted rather than glued in, and the joints can't pinch little fingers. I design around EN71/ASTM F963 thinking from the start. Smooth, wipe-clean surfaces are part of that too. I'm a 3d artist with technical background and focused on mostly character art and have many experience on product design/3d prints.
