Hi, For a plastic + metal consumer assembly headed to injection molding and CNC, the cost savings almost never come from the obvious geometry. They come from things like uniform wall thickness and proper draft on the molded parts to kill sink and warpage, gate/parting-line placement, consolidating fasteners into snap-fits or living hinges, and loosening over-tight tolerances on the CNC metal parts where the fit doesn't need them. Tolerance over-specification is usually the single biggest hidden cost. I work in SOLIDWORKS and can deliver the optimized models, 2D drawings (PDF/DWG), basic BOM, and a DFM report flagging each change with its manufacturing rationale. Two questions: What's the target annual volume? DFM for 1k units/yr vs 100k drives completely different decisions. Are the molded parts single-cavity or multi-cavity tooling — and is tooling already cut, or still open to design changes? That second question matters: if tooling is already cut, the savings shrink fast, and we should scope realistically before you spend.
