Need some flooring advice! I have 1954 2.25" red oak throughout my house, but one bedroom needs a major patch where a was removed. I’ve always wanted 7" wide-plank European White Oak (engineered for the CO climate). Is it a bad idea to start the 'dream floor' in just the bedroom now and have it clash with the hallway for 3 years until I can afford the rest or if I ever decide to do the rest? Or is it better to just patch the old red oak, even though the pros say the wood won't perfectly match the 1950s grain? I also cannot match the stain that is in the hallway and in the rest of the rooms, as that was a complex custom stain and I do not have any of that color left. I tried to have it professionally color match, but no one can get it correct.

I do not have high hopes that they will, so I want to know how this can be determined, or assumed the slab is reinforced below that wall. I have some experience with remodeling and plan to remove and then replace the trim, drywall, finish, flooring and paint myself. I can also do cleanup and debris removal. There are a few light switches and electrical outlets in the wall which will need to be relocated and I can arrange to have that done. No plumbing or HVAC.
