Résumé de concours

I need a retro scifi illustration of a time traveller for my recording artist website. You can get an instant idea of what I'm after by visiting it and going to the music page to see similar illustrations by other artists at:

I like to illustrate each song with its own custom image and have three new songs that are ready to post. This is the first of the three.
It's a color illustration in a 1950’s "Amazing Stories" style:
or comic book style for a sci-fi song about a time machine, called “Time is the Jones.” It’s a big, epic rock production about a guy who lives a couple hundred years in the future and who is a time-travel junkie.

And guys, I NEED AN ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATION, not a stock piece to pin a title to...

DESCRIPTION: We see a 40-year old adventurer dude, a cross between Indiana Jones and a bad boy in futuristic leathers, in some kind of cool Time Machine, twisting a dial or strapping in for his next ride. As with the other songs on the site, it needs to be titled in a font similar to the others:
Time is the Jones

I'm including several good time machine examples to look over. I imagine him in the middle of getting in, or already in it, about to take off, maybe from his garage or workshop or backyard, with the attitude of a biker, revving up a big Harley.
Most important is complimenting the style of song illustrations already on the site. Not duplicating them, but relating to the genre: something futuristic from a dated point of view… Retro.

Well, THIS has been interesting. I’ve got a couple of things to say to all of you about this contest and this method of finding a suitable artist. Both are flawed at best, but both seem to work in part.

First, thanks for participating. In the past, I’ve used Upwork (originally Elance). This time, I thought I’d try asking people to actually sketch something first, instead of choosing from online portfolios. The advantage of course, is that with portfolios, you get a better general sense of what you’ll wind up with. With sketches first, you get a better idea of what Ideas each artist has to offer.
But the problem is that it’s unfair to ask people to devote themselves to something they’re unlikely to win, because only one person can. So as this timeline progressed, I began to hope that those of you who were really doing the work were also doing it as a good exercise to create additions to your own portfolios.
In regards to working the system:

By today, I’d asked a few of you for links to your finished work, so I could better judge what to expect if I hired you and by that process settled on the easy choice of an artist whose simple sketch belied her real talent for capturing human expression in a modern and compelling style.

I hope you guys are on other sites as well as this one. As a recording artist who depends on visual resources for my projects, I can tell you those portfolios are what it’s all about for me. They remain the best way to choose the kind of creators who make the most sense for each project.
Good luck and thanks again contributing your time and effort!

Guys. Pull your bladdy fingers out. We've got a Contest Holder here who's offered us not just the chance of a reasonable payout - he's also handed us a LOVELY illustration job. Premo stuff. You should be CHOMPING at the bit to take a proper crack at this. Instead, 7 days ago, all anyone round here could think to do was try rip this chap off with shite - pure, unadulterated shite. We have 18 hours left to make sure the CH leaves here feeling - despite that shaky start - we who work through Freelancer are up to the task. How about we avoid leaving him thinking any less of us further? My congratulations to everyone that bothered at least putting pen to paper. Well done for that much at least. But as to the rest of you - either get some actual work done or bugger off - your opinion round here count's for absolutely nothing without work backing it up. So lets start seeing some. Clocks ticking....

By that logic , I guess if I redraw Mona Lisa , I suddenly own the rights of that masterpiece because da Vinci's long gone.Letting this kind posted with the other hard workers is derogating to all of us , and also make it very clear what's the attitude of CH towards originality . After all , always Gresham's law , Bad money drives out good.

Plastic - the Mona Lisa is public domain. Providing you don't sell your re-painted version as Da Vinci's Mona Lisa - you can paint and sell your own versions till your hearts content. You own the rights to your own painting of it. It's called the internet, P - you can look this shit up any time before saying dumb things in public....

nugrahanugraha - there's an enormous difference between producing an image by hand based strongly on the image and style of a pre-existing work and simply grabbing images willy-nilly found on the internet, uploading them to Freelancer and calling that an entry. One is the product and demonstration exclusively of ones own actual artistic ability and competence - the other is straight forward, rank amateur, theft. They're not actually the same thing. As evidenced by the Contest Holder having no choice other than to remove a PHENOMENAL 22 entries - which, even for around here, surely has to constitute some obscene form of record - ALL of which obviously copy and pasted from online sources, the majority not even pertaining to the contests brief. THAT'S the most incredible part of all of this. That and the fact we (apparently) have to actually explain it.

Bojanaboki, there are a number of illustrations needed. I'm looking for an artist or artists who complement the ones already on my site (www.cerealatomic.com) This contest is for just ONE Original Illustration, which may lead to more for the winner or runners-up. That said, I'm a little shocked at how many paste-ups are being posted. It may be that requesting original art is too much of a commitment for a good artist without guaranteeing the job, but instead of going to Upwork this time, I've followed this contest protocol and guaranteed the award to someone. As a fellow creator, I sincerely thank those of you who are sending sketches. That's all I'd expect for spec work. I will respond with detailed feedback to all who submit ORIGINAL concepts and thank you sincerely for your interest in effort in doing so.

Okay, listen up modern Del Boy. You can keep using your "fancy words" and all that but the problem is you are keep lying to Contest holder, and yourself about Copyright infringement. What you are trying to do is present 100% copyrighted design THAT YOU DIDN'T do. It can cost contest holder a law suit if he buy this design. I saw you and you posting on couple of contest copyrighted material, and you try to act all mighty here like you are an artist. Stop kidding yourself and maybe try to make your OWN idea, instead of copying from others. Copyright CAN be bypassed if you change colors, face ambient etc, and it is called reference, so basically if you use same pose same ambient but in your own style, that is then not copyrighted, clearly you just Photoshoped only text and nothing more. It can cost Contest holder thousands of dollars if they, who where publishers of this comic, sue him. Stop disgrace artists who are trying every day to be better at there art.

: ).... Conzar, my dear, dear fellow - obviously you're very new here and clearly don't realise - if an entrant want's to make a sealed entry they can, at any time, at the cost of a mere 50p to themselves. Calling the Contest Holder to seal the contest - costs the Contest Holder $30 bucks. Obviously, you're not at all the villainous sort who might take advantage of everyone else's inability to check over entries once a contest has been sealed so attempt to palm the CH with web-rips, claiming them their own work. Obviously not. Clearly you're a very fine fellow, just obviously unaware that if an entrant want's to make a sealed entry, they can. For a whole 50p. Odd how hardly anyone ever manages to mention that to the Contest Holder until after they've spent $30 bucks....
