I have a new collection of short stories coming out.

Title: Nine Amusing Tales
Author: Greg Strandberg

I want to use either this picture of the nine muses of ancient Greece, or this picture of the comedy/tragedy masks. Here are the links:

Word to the wise for all you new eBook cover designers - you can't have a white border that just bleeds onto the page background. If you can't read titles at a small scale like this, how can a customer on Amazon read them? And if that's the case, how will you sell copies?

Hello Sir Greg :) I have a question about your ebook before I start designing my entry. What would your book be about and what kind of feel or impression would you like the book cover to have? The title says "9 Amusing Tales" so does that mean that the book would be filled with humor? Or since it is based from the muses from Greek Mythology, would it be more on the serious side and the design would more likely be relating to Greek elements? Thanks in advance!

Hi Greg,
Good book covers are very often the simplest ones. It's all about balance and good font. This is a skill that doesn't come up automatically with the sotfware :) Maybe throw a few more $$ in the contest so we can spend a bit more time on richer graphic covers.

  $10 isn't much..but I have designed covers for free. Soooooooo yeah! I mean, if you want more money, you go out and get it, why bother with this one?

  Got no issue personally to work for small budgets, everyone choose how much time they spent on each contest. I guess I was just trying to point out that it was maybe the reason why greg was not seeing "rich graphics cover", just simply because those ones do take time to design. Here you'll find employers happy to pay a reasonable fee for what requires "a bit of work". It's about finding the right balance between expectations / budget.

So far #10, #3, and #9 look the best, but not really. I could pretty much make the same thing with PPT and MS Paint. Hopefully we can get a few more good entries.
