Résumé du concours

I HAVE ALL THE CODE FOR THIS TOOL!!! (Attached to competition) I need help getting it back-online. The team I developed this and had it actually running online is no longer available.

StratoStar Balloon Flight Prediction - Phase 1 (Plan)
I created this tool which was working online at one point, but the team who build it with me is no long doing this type of work. I would like to have have some plans / details on how to get this software online again!

Software Function Overview:
This software gives users a flight path of what how a weather balloon would fly on a certain date from a certain location. The user enters some information related to their future weather balloon flight and it uses data provided from US Government on the conditions of the atmosphere to plot the simulated flight on a map. This helps our users to know their balloon will fly so they can make a plan to fly and recover everything. This also helps avoid landing in water, cities, ect. Also students use this as a learning tool to better understand the atmosphere.

Example of Balloon Prediction Software:
This is the industry standard balloon prediction software from a University in the UK. You can see how it works by inputing a Lat / Long and running it with all the other settings the same. http://predict.habhub.org/

Assets:
I have the code from the project from GitHub. I believe this is Java based code (.js)....but don't know how to read or look at all these files. Also have a screen design for a UI/UX.

StratoStar is a company which helps students and educators engage in Math, Science and Engineering through conducting missions using weather balloons to send small projects to the edge of space which are tracked and recovered. Onboard are many sensors including HD video cameras to capture the entire experience.

Competition Questions to answer:
- What software platfroms are needed to host / run code? (thinking about running in Heroku)
- How would you proceed working on this project to get up and running?
- What are the potential issues with this project?
- What are the areas which will take the most time / work?

Hello , so I have gone this program through and through and i don't think getting it running will yield any benefit . Because from the whole code the only think the app aims to do is download data for a given time frame

Well i made this programm running again and everything seems to work fine except the prediction api doesnt work correctly it responses with empty. This could take a while to find that issue.

Well when i press on the predict button, what result should appear? The api isnt some external api, its the api in this programm. Meanwhile the server is down but i will activate it again for showing the currently result

What do you think the hardest part of the project will be to get the software running again? Is there anything missing from the code I attached to this project?

Hi , Have you seen the comment I left in my entry?. From what I can tell nothing is missing from the code you sent . is your objective getting the software up and running? because honestly I think we need to build a new one . I have looked at http://predict.habhub.org/ and i can produce a similar app with an updated UI/UX which will be easy to maintain and scale in future

I was thinking about something simpler, like netlify, firebase. I would use some javascript based framework to this project (React js probably). Not sure but I think it's possible to make this software without any kind of backend (as far as I understood you doesn't have to sign in to use the software). We could use axios or some fetch method to obtain the JSON from the government API. A potential issue with this project is the information availability since it's real-time, maybe the number of users overwhelms the API and we does'nt have the actualized information. The most time/work would probably be the UI/UX since the target audience may loos interest if the software becomes difficult to use.

Jorge thanks for your ideas! I don't know much about the hosting side of software platform but I can answer a few more questions: 1) How people use it : I am thinking there would be a free version (no login) and possibly a paid version with more features (members login). 2) Government Data : I believe the data set is updated every 12 hours and I think we downloaded the data so it was faster to run the modeling from users.

Here is a balloon prediction tool from a University in the UK. I am not sure how it all works but I am guessing they use the same data set: http://predict.habhub.org/ THIS IS THE INDUSTRY STANDARD for my niche. If we can improve the UX/UI even a little it would be great!.
