We have a solar thermal field to monitor and intend to build a number of ”widgets” to display different features. The entry should be an examples of such dashboard. A dataset from the MySQL database and and example PDF has been attached.

The “widgets” should display the data as a bar chart, a line chart and as text/number.

The system will in the end display a number of different boxes with different information. This competition is to get a first idea of the look and feel of the components.

The “widget” should have an upper frame with the name of the widget and a mark to collapse it into a single line. The “widget” should be possible to invoke on a website with a php function. No need to have any interface to arrange them or configure them, the set will be configured directly in php-code.

I think the demo should have one part of the php-program with the main ccs-file and a design for the full screen (e.g. the gray background with a black thin frame) and then one or several functions that is called to put the three different widget on that screen.

Graphic layouts that we have found appealing is ”The Panic Status Board” and ”Geckoboard”. The trick seems to have shadings on the right places... Please make a google image search and look at those designs!

The five pages illustrate first the empty dashboard, then when the bar chart is enabled, then also the line chart and text boxes are enabled. Then with all three boxes activated and finally when the “widgets” has been collapsed by clicking on the symbol to the right to the name of the box.

SQL-file (saved with the extention .txt to allow Freelacer to accept it, change the extention to .sql after daownloading it)
Use the text file dashboard.sql.zip to create a database and use the example data in the database in the contest:
Bar chart: display the five different temperatures in the table log from channel_id = 1
Line chart: display the five different temperatures in the table log from channel_id = 2
Text box: display the last 2 entries in the table status and the last temperature measured from table log, channel_id = 2

Thank you all contestants! Sorry for some slow feedback. I'm impressed by the effort all have shown in this contest and the top three have all solved the task entirely according to the instructions (installing the sql database, implementing all requested features and diagrams) in a very good way. I have selected a Venezuelan winner, but special thanks to CBabbage and Wade Gilchrist for good communication. I think that a personal touch to the presentations and the communication is a big plus. It will stay up at least 24 hours more. However, I have a great respect for peoples time and effort, and it feels bad to have many good entries and only being able to work together with one. This competition tool is a powerful way to choose freelancer, but I feel it can easily be misused.
