Redesign a Logo for Irish Network Houston

Contest Brief
Looking for a logo refresh (current logo attached), rather than a complete redesign. Some elements of the current design that we would like to change, specifically:
- Keep the main logo elements - Blue Cowboy hat hanging on the cross of the "I"; Green IN over the Houston. Happy to consider alternate fonts
- Fix the "I" so it looks less like a "T"
- Overall make it a bit more 'modern'. Current one looks very flat/1-dimensional... but I don't mean make the logo 3-d, just add some depth to the image
- Would like the blue and red in the logo to be the same shade as the colors in the texas flag - Red: #BF0A30 Blue:#002868
Context: This is the logo for the Houston chapter of Irish Network Houston. Our mission is to 'strengthen ties between Houston and Ireland by providing professional networking and social events to people who appreciate Irish heritage and culture'. Our website is http://www.irishnetworkhouston.com/
Our logo is trying to convey 2 distinct heritages, together - Ireland and Texas.
