Lion could be too much, specially he should be wearing a uniform of a convoy guard, uniforms could be simple yet elegant, practical for the surrounding environment, shield doesn’t need to be rounded, even not that important to have, tattoo should be on the back shoulder and doesn’t have to appear when wearing uniform, i see the uniform as whitish or off white with a bright color touch (redish), long hair but in style,

I chose to use a lion's headdress and a melee weapon in the form of a knife in the shape of a lion's claw because this character is likened to a strong and brave warrior who came from the desert as described, who can be called a desert lion. But it does not rule out the possibility that the lion's headdress and claws can be replaced with a phoenix as told.
