I’m transforming a 3,300 sqm coconut-grove plot in Ahangama into a boutique retreat anchored by a lovingly restored Sri Lankan wallawwa. The brief is to let that historic core shine while weaving in new structures and landscape elements that feel just as warm, but with a funky, contemporary twist that sparks curiosity.

Program highlights
• Five detached guest rooms nestled among the trees
• A spa pavilion and meditation decks
• 20-metre pool with generous lounging edges
• Open-air dining space that can flex between intimate dinners and lively New-Year parties with music, food stalls and dancing

Day-to-day, the compound must run smoothly as a hospitality operation, so back-of-house circulation, service yards and discreet storage are essential. Once a year everything flips into “playground mode”, so I need clever ways to open up lawns, widen paths, and integrate pop-up bars and performance spots without disturbing the landscape.

What I need from you
1. A concept master-plan that maps guest flow, staff/service routes and the relationship between the heritage house, new rooms, spa, pool and dining pavilion.
2. Mood-boards or precedent images that show how you’ll keep the architecture heritage-inspired yet delightfully off-beat. Reclaimed timber, local clay tiles, polished concrete, playful colour accents—surprise me.
3. High-level massing or schematic sections highlighting roof pitches, passive-cooling tricks and rainwater handling suited to the coastal climate.
4. A short outline of materials, structural system and any green-building strategies you think fit.

When you submit, include a detailed site plan responding to the attached program so I can see how you think through space, views and movement. Revit, ArchiCAD, SketchUp or hand-drawn is fine—clarity matters more than software choice.

I’ll review proposals next week and shortlist quickly; if selected, you’ll move into schematic design with clear milestones for detailed layouts, 3D visuals and construction drawings. Let’s create something genuinely special for the south coast.
