Dart is a text messaging app with photo sharing capabilities. It's unique feature is strong privacy assurances. The logo should convey the idea of sharing messages in a way that inspires confidence in privacy.
The logo may use color, but should be recognizable in a monochromatic (black and white) 24x24 resolution image, which is the most restrictive one required as described below.
Possibilities of objects to use might include: message bubble, envelope, dart, shield, ...

I ask that the winner rasterize the logo in the following resolutions:
* color resolutions required: 48x48, 150x150, 159x159, 310x150, 310x310, 336x336
* monochrome resolutions: 38x38, 72x110, 132x202 (transparent background and white foreground)

Please also provide vector original(s) in case I need more resolutions in the future.

You can see screenshots of the app, including its current logo here. Please note that your logo need NOT look similar to the existing one. Please feel free to make yours novel and much better than this.

I tried to convert dartboard into a D and a dart

I'm seeing that use of the word "Dart" in the logo is making it hard to visualize how that logo could be shrunk to very small sizes, as required. It also keeps the iconic part from being as recognizable if the word would be removed. I suggest any additional entries avoid including "Dart" (the word) in the logo.

I discovered a mistake in the resolutions I was requesting. Most notably the monochrome icon should be 38x38 pixels (bigger, giving you more expressive freedom). Sorry for my mistake.

I find myself leaning toward logos with a graphic of a message (in some form) over that of a target.

  Courier will understand it, others perhaps confused with mail service etc..
  With respect to the funds, it's just a general idea, I think I should also point to the design of the interface of the application, so that the logo can be applied correctly.

Several of these entries look good, but I have a hard time imagining them looking recognizable in the monochrome 24x24 version as required in the brief. Those entries that include a sample monochrome version image alongside the color one (especially if they're at the right size) are more likely to be selected.
