Orthodontists for Access is a new member organization (for and by orthodontists) that promotes Orthodontists as THE Dental Specialists when it comes to orthodontic treatment, braces and clear aligner therapy. Membership is open to any licensed orthodontic specialist. The logo will be used in all our video, print and web pieces.
Orthodontists are dentists who graduate dental school in the top of their class and then are selected, over hundreds of other applicants, to spend 2-3 additional years in a full time residency program after dental school. Primary Care Dentists put themselves out as experts in orthodontics and braces more and more these days though they have no formal training or experience. Did you know 50% of dentists in practice today graduated in the bottom half of their dental school class?? :)
OFA's first mission is to educate the public about the difference between a primary care dentist and a dental specialist as well as lobby state lawmakers to force primary care dentists to stop claiming expertise in orthodontics or at least inform the patient that they are not a formally trained or licensed dental specialist. Basically, no patient would ask their primary care physician to perform cosmetic surgery because everyone knows you need to go to a licensed plastic surgeon. The same is true for dentistry and orthodontics but the public is not educated. As orthodontists we have allowed that to happen. The goal of OFA is to correct this lack of education.
The second but equally important mission of OFA is to enhance access to care and equality of available care for all children regardless of financial status. We do not believe in a two tiered healthcare system where those who can afford it go to awesome offices and get great care while those who cannot must go where their insurance is accepted, the cheapest place in town or even go without care. We have great experience in this arena and a simple, stepwise plan to make this happen. I own the trademarked phrase, "Everyone deserves a great smile" in dentistry so if that is useful in logo creation then feel free to use it.
Orthodontists for Access needs a logo that is appealing to the public as well as to orthodontists. I don't want any teeth in the logo. Smile or smirk type designs would be acceptable and possibly what we need if tastefully done but I'd love to see something original that still gets the message across. The domain for the new group is OrthosForAccess.com
