    I think I prefer #4 (I know I wanted a low poly count) but I like the more muscular angular version. The only thing I don't like about #4 is the rump (top of his bottom)

      No, I like version #4 better, it's just where the end of the backbone seems sunken looks wrong; perhaps all you have to do is pull that point up a bit.
